Obituary

William Ray Plank, age 92, of Rochester, died August 8th, 2020 at Seasons Hospice House in Rochester.

William, known as "Bud" by friends and family, was born January 26, 1928, in Plainview, the son of Cyril and Mary Plank. At 18 years-old on December 18, 1946, he married his late wife June Delia Plank in Elgin at Evangelical Lutheran Church. Lifetime companions, the couple celebrated their 73rd anniversary last year.

Bud worked for farmers, Vincent Speltz in Altura and Walter Maas in Millville as a young man. After the family moved to Rochester, he initially worked in construction and for Waters Conley. Thereafter, he worked for Marigold Dairy from which he retired after 37 years. Bud enjoyed camping and traveling in Arizona, Florida, and Texas and spending time at the cabin in West Newton where he and June fished, gardened, and spent time with family.

He is survived by children, Gary (Mary) Plank, and Mary (Dean) Erdmann; grandchildren, Kevin (Lisa) Plank, Kim Plank, Kelly (Al) Pfeilsticker, Deanna (Brian) Royse, and Jared Erdmann; great-grandchildren, Alex (Skyler) Johnson, Josh Plank, Nolan Plank, Emily Hallett, Rachel Hallett, Mikail Ellanson, Jayden Kingsley, Naomi Line, and Mariah Line; step great-grandchildren, Michael and Dylan Pfeilsticker, and Jacob Royse; great-great-grandchild, Aria Johnson; sister, Betty Shones; and brother, Richard Plank.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; wife, June; sisters, Doris Schnell and Dollie Hoffman; brothers, Donald and Harold Plank; and granddaughter, Katie Kingsley.

The funeral service for Bud will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 13, 2020 at Christ Our Rock Lutheran Church in Rochester with Rev. Jeff Limpert officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Please honor that masks will be required and social distancing will be observed. Interment will follow the service at Grandview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Bud's family wishes to express their gratitude to Seasons Hospice House in Rochester and Mayo Clinic Cancer Center for outstanding care and compassion.

Memorials will be divided among local charities and Christ Our Rock Lutheran Church.
