Born on November 5, 1920 to William and Adela Ollhoff, he grew up and attended school in Winona. After graduating from high school he met his future wife, Marjorie King of Rochester, at a church youth event at Whitewater State Park. He answered the call to duty and enlisted in the Army Air Corp on September 21, 1942. He was stationed at the B17 training base at Yuma Army Airfield, Yuma, Arizona. He married Marjorie King in 1943. She joined him in Yuma later where they set up housekeeping in a renovated garage until he was reassigned to Morrison Field, West Palm Beach, Florida where he stayed until the war ended. After his discharge, he and Marge made their home in Rochester where they raised 5 children. He was employed at Botsford Lumber Company before taking a position at Olmsted Federal Savings and Loan as a loan officer. He later accepted a position at Mayo Clinic in the Pension and Benefit Section where he stayed until his retirement. In retirement, he and Marge built their dream home on 80 acres between Plainview and Kellogg. In later years they moved back to Rochester to be near family.

He was a longstanding member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he served as church Treasurer for a time. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing and was an avid reader.
