Verleine Myrtle Grimm passed away at Green Prairie nursing home in Plainview, MN and went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at the age of 94 to join her husband Richard Grimm who previously met our Lord and Savior, 8 years ago.

Verleine was the middle daughter born to Iva and Edwin Mattison on a small farm near Simpson, MN across from Fugles Mill).

Verleine was baptized April 3, 1952 at Zumbro Lutheran Church. Together with her husband, they raised five children as members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Rochester where she has been a life-long member.

She attended a one room school in Pleasant Grove Township through 8th grade classes, then went on to graduate from Stewartville High School in 1950. After graduation, she struck out for Texas where she was a nanny for about 4 months before getting mono and returning home. She later started as a desk attendant at Mayo Clinic during which time she met the love of her life. Richard (Dick) Grimm began courting mom while he was stationed in Nurenberg Germany. Daily letters were mailed from across the seas, resulting in a marriage in February 21, 1954.

Verleine and Dick raised five children over the years, starting out in a small house just off second street SW and a few years later moving to their second home on Pinewood Road. But, having five kids was never enough for Verleine as she filled her home with daycare kids and many neighborhood kids that were always there. Verleine also was the accountant for the business they owned G & R Auto and Truck Repair on South Broadway.

During her lifetime, Verleine spent time collecting Tea Leaf pottery. Traveling with Dick was also a passion, especially to Red Lake, where they enjoyed the family cabin, many international destinations such as Alaska, Hawaii, Norway, Germany, England, Switzerland, Jamaica, Mexico, and of course summer weekends trying to keep tabs on five kids crammed into campers towed/driven across America.

Verleine is survived by her five children: Sherrie (Michael Yochum) Nelson, Randall (Hope) Grimm, Larry (Marcia) Grimm, Robbee (Nimol) Grimm, and Lyndee (Ronald) Cobb; ten grandchildren, Gregory (Jen) Nelson, Rick (Tonya) Nelson, and Kory (Amber) Nelson, Nathan (Laura) Grimm, Brady (Kelli) Grimm, and Madeline (Sam) Fritz, Nicole (Steve) Samb, Natalie (Jared) Wertish, Whitley Cobb and Emily (Dave) Domine; nine great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Camrin, Lyla, Grace, Aubrey, Ariana and Ace Nelson, Lily Samb, Clara Domine and her sister, Bonnie Mickow.

Verleine is preceded in death by her husband, Dick, parents Edwin and Iva Mattison, two sisters (Judy Mattison and Lucille Luehmann, one brother (Joe Mattison), two brother-in-laws Richard Luehmann, Richard Mickow, and son-in-law Brian Nelson.

Verleine was the nicest person you would ever want to meet. She will be a great addition to heaven, but a terrible loss for those whose lives she touched!

A funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 7, 2026 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 222 6th Ave SW, Rochester, MN. Visitation will be held from noon until the time of services. Burial will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens. To share a special memory or condolence, please visit www.mackenfuneralhome.com
