Timothy Robert
Spratte
August 27, 1956 – May 18, 2026
Timothy Robert “Tim” Spratte passed away peacefully at his home on May 18, 2026, at the age of 69, following a lengthy battle with multiple myeloma. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Tim was born on August 27, 1956, in Rochester, Minnesota to parents Robert and Beverly (Anderson) Spratte. He grew up in Rochester and lived there all his life, graduating from John Marshall High School in 1974. An avid sportsman, Tim loved playing football and hockey. After high school, he attended Rochester Community and Technical College and trained to become a journeyman painter. In 1984, Tim married his beloved wife Pat in Chicago. The couple had two children, Katherine (Katy) and Peter (Pete).
Tim was proud to carry on the family legacy, becoming the third-generation owner of the first Dairy Queen in Minnesota, located at 538 North Broadway. He and his sister Diana ran the business together, side-by-side, for 30 years. Tim retired and sold the store in 2025. While owning and operating the DQ, Tim also worked for the City of Rochester Public Works/Traffic Engineering division, where he formed lifelong friendships with colleagues.
Tim was exceptionally knowledgeable and handy and could fix just about anything. He loved puttering around on his tractors, telling stories, scenic drives, hunting for deer and pheasant, and attending many concerts over the years. A lifelong Catholic, his faith remained a quiet and steady presence throughout his nearly 70 years on earth, primarily as a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Tim was an enthusiastic Nebraska Cornhuskers football fan and enjoyed cheering on his little brother Todd during his years playing for the team in Lincoln. Tim shared that loyalty and many game days with friends and family.
Tim enjoyed traveling and was never in a hurry to get where he was going. In his earlier years, he backpacked across Europe and Canada. More recently, he and Pat enjoyed trips to Ireland, Montana, Alaska, and beyond. However, some of his most treasured times were closer to home, at his favorite places: the family land and the cabin on Lake Pepin. Above all, Tim was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Beverly Spratte. Tim is survived by his wife loving Pat, his children, Katy (Skip) and Pete (Caree) and three grandchildren: Bob, Reagan, and Cameron. Tim is also survived by his tight-knit siblings, Deb (Luis), Tom (Natalie), Diana (Terry), Todd (Peg), and Denise, along with many extended family members and close friends who will miss his presence, his steadiness, and the quiet way he knew so much about so much.
Family and friends are invited to gather on the evening of June 2 from 4:00–7:00 p.m. in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home (1105 12th St SE, Rochester). A Mass of Christian burial honoring Tim’s life will be held the following day, June 3, at 11:00 a.m. at Church of the Resurrection (1600 11th Ave SE, Rochester). The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials may be directed to Lake Pepin Legacy Alliance, Mayo Clinic, or the Arbor Day Foundation.
The family extends special gratitude to Dr. Dingli and his team for their care and compassion throughout Tim’s illness.
