Sister Audrey Goldschmidt, 89, a Franciscan Sister of the Congregation of Our Lady of Lourdes, Rochester, Minnesota, died at Assisi Heights on Monday, August 24, 2026.
Audrey Helen Goldschmidt was born on July 22, 1937, in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, to Leo and Elizabeth (Wildschutz) Goldschmidt. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis in 1955, received the name of Sister Roderic, and made perpetual vows in 1961.
S. Audrey’s ministry was centered on education, service, and community. From 1958 to 1965, she taught primary education at St. Wenceslaus School in Jackson, Minnesota. She then served at St. Francis School in Rochester, Minnesota, from 1965 to 1983, and at St. Mary School in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, from 1983 to 1997. Through her years of teaching, S. Audrey shared in the Franciscan mission of serving others and supporting the growth and development of those in her care. In October 2015, S. Audrey moved to Assisi Heights, where she continued to contribute through volunteer service and participation in Assisi Heights Ministries. Her years of ministry reflected the Franciscan spirit of service, community, and a commitment to sharing her gifts wherever they were needed.
Survivors of Sister Audrey include her Franciscan Sisters, with whom she shared life for 71 years; sister, Carol Hengel; nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gerald, Marvin, James, and Milo Goldschmidt; and sisters, Delores Bernker, Roslyn Jungers, and Darleen Haas.
A Resurrection Liturgy will be held at Assisi Heights at 11:00 am on Friday, September 4, 2026. The burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery. To view the funeral via live stream, go to www.rochesterfrancisan.org.
