Romeo Roberto Filoteo, 83, died peacefully on September 9th, 2020 in his home. He had suffered complications from COPD and bacterial infection in his wrist and arm.
Born in Angat, Bulacan, Philippines on September 30 th , 1936, his early childhood was spent in Pandacan, Manila where the family moved when he was in fourth grade. He attended Adamson University, Manila where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 1958, and was hired right after as a Department Head in the Processing Department of a manufacturing company where he met his wife, Adelaida, a quality control chemist at the company. They married in 1962 and went on to have two children.
The Filoteo family migrated to the United States in 1975, received by his sister, Rolita, who warmly welcomed them to Rochester, MN. He worked at the Mayo Clinic as an electron microscopy technician until he retired in 1992. Thereafter, he helped with much love taking care of his three granddaughters.
Romeo was involved in many civic affairs, he was a FreeMason of the Blue Lodge in Rochester, and was appointed to be a Grand Representative to the Philippines by the Grand Lodge of Minnesota in his many visits to the lodges in Manila. He was an active member of the Phil-Am Association of Rochester until a surgery for aneurysm and his chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder limited his participation. He had a zest for life and had a love for many hobbies, including fishing and playing many musical instruments.
Romeo is survived by his wife, Adelaida; two children, Theo and Julia; three grandchildren, Montana, Annalyse, and Audrina; and three siblings, Rolita(Magno), Rosalinda(Cruz), both of Rochester, and a brother, Roberto in the Philippines. His parents, Delfin and Juanita, and two brothers, Rodolfo and Rolando preceded him in death.
Romeo will be remembered as a charming conversationalist who made friends with everyone he met. A respected figure in the Rochester Filipino community, his laughter, jokes and music will be missed.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30am, Saturday, September 19, 2020 in the River Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held an hour before the service. Burial will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Rochester. Because of the pandemic, no lunch is planned after the service. Face covering and social distancing will be practiced.
