A funeral service for Roger L. Van Der Heyden will be held on Monday, December 12, 2016 at 11:00am at Zumbro Lutheran Church with Rev. Jason Bryan-Wegner officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday afternoon, December 11, 2016 from 2:00pm until 5:00pm in the River Park Chapel of Macken Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester.
Roger Leonard Van Der Heyden, 84, of Rochester, passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at his home.
Roger was born February 27, 1932 in Cresco, Iowa to Octaaf and Marie (Coen) Van Der Heyden. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean conflict. On May 24, 1956, he married Delores Schutte in Lime Springs, IA. The couple moved to Rochester in 1958 where Roger worked in heat treating for IBM for 34 years.Roger loved his family very much. Roger also loved hunting, fishing, golfing, pool, and bowling. He was a member of the Zumbro Lutheran Church and the Elks Lodge.
Roger is survived by his wife, DeeDee, his son, Mark (Kathy) Van Der Heyden, of Byron, his two daughters; Betty (Russ Rice) Van Der Heyden, of Rochester, and Kim Van Der Heyden, of Eagan, his son-in-law, Joe Ulwelling, his grandchildren; Nicole (Jesse) Nelson, Rochester, Cassidy (Jerry) Keefer, of Menomonie, WI, Courtney Van Der Heyden, of Eagan, and Austin Van Der Heyden, of Eagan, and his great-grandchildren; Nevaeh Nelson, Taytum Nelson, Keef Keefer, and Abigail Keefer, his Brother; Elmer (Mary) Van Der Heyden, and many nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Norbert, and sisters; Evelyn, Lucille, and Dorothy.
Memorials are suggested to Zumbro Lutheran Church or the Veterans Administration in Roger's memory.
