Roger Allen
Schutz
September 1, 1942 – June 3, 2019
Roger Allen Schutz, 76, of Rochester, Minnesota died peacefully on June 3, 2019 surrounded by his family.
Roger was born on September 1, 1942 in Caledonia, Minnesota to Victor and Ida (Nelson) Schutz. He graduated from Caledonia High School before attending Humboldt Institute in Minneapolis. He started his career at IBM in 1965 where he worked until his retirement in 2009.
On June 21, 1969, he was united in marriage to Shirley Sanders from Fayette, Iowa. Together they created a faith and family focused home.
Roger was a devoted family man who led his children to love the Lord Jesus Christ, invested in them on a daily basis, took them on epic vacations, and was actively involved in the lives of his grandchildren.
Roger was a member of Meadow Park Church of Christ, now Hope Summit, where he served as Elder, Building Committee Chairman, Adopt-a-Highway Director, Greeter/Usher, and along with his wife, Sunday School Teacher.
In retirement, he enjoyed mentoring students through Kid's Hope USA and monitoring recess at Schaeffer Academy.
Roger's enthusiasm for life brought joy to his family and friends. He loved oldies music, deer hunting, gardening, reading, and especially baseball. His love for baseball started in childhood playing with neighborhood friends and listening to the Chicago Cubs on the radio. As an adult, he coached his sons' little league teams, collected thousands of baseball cards and dozens of bobbleheads, spent countless hours teaching his nephew, children, and grandchildren to play the game he loved, and passionately followed the Minnesota Twins.
Roger is survived by his wife, Shirley; his children, Steve (Kezia), Sheila (Rodrigo) Avila, and Sam (Hilda); grandchildren, Gabriela and Lucas Schutz, Ian, Evan, and Susana Avila, and Sarah Mae (and soon to arrive, Sofia) Schutz.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Corinne Kubitz.
Memorials to Schaeffer Academy are preferred.
Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 8th at Hope Summit Christian Church.
