The funeral for Roger M. Hovland will be held at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at 11:00AM with Pastor Adam Koglin officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Interment will be Monday, June 19th at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Mr. Hovland, 92, a long time resident of Rochester, died on June 12, 2017 at Seasons Hospice.

Roger was born on September 5, 1924 in Saint Paul and attended school there, graduating from Edison High School in Minneapolis. He enlisted in the Air Force Cadet Program in 1943, received his Wings as a B-25 Pilot and was honorably discharged in 1945. He married June Peterson in 1948.

He was employed at Northwestern Bell and US West for 35 years and held numerous positions in management following his initial hire as a lineman. After retirement in 1981, he worked as a Manufacturer's Representative for five years and as a Laborer for Christ for seven years building churches. Roger was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church for over 60 years and held a number of offices over the years with primary interest in Evangelism and visitation.

Roger enjoyed fishing, golf, handball, running (25,000 plus miles) as well as square, old time, and ballroom dancing. He traveled in a trailer over 268,000 miles and spent 2147 nights throughout the continental US, Canada and Alaska. In addition to enjoying life with family and friends, his main interest was sharing Christ and God's word with others. Bible study groups in numerous places around the United States and Canada were a big part of his life after God gave him the assurance of Salvation in 1973, Ephesians 1:13-14.

Survivors include three children, Diana (Craig) McHenry, Craig (Ruth) Hovland, and Jill Adams; with six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
