Robert J. Brown of Rochester, MN passed away July 28, 2026 at the age 84.

Bob was born to Gerald and Esther in Oconto, WI in 1942. He spent his formative years as a loving son, brother to Dennis and Nancy, and was an outstanding student-athlete earning nine letters in five different sports for the Oconto Blue Devils. Bob graduated from high school in 1960 where he met the love of his life, Carole LeTendre. Bob attended Wartburg College in Waverly, IA, and soon after began his journalism career at the Oconto County Reporter, followed by four years as sports editor of the Montana Standard in Butte. Bob and Carole married in 1964 and later moved to Rochester, MN.

Over their nearly 60 years of marriage, Bob and Carole enjoyed many family vacations that included golfing, gaming, and antiquing. Bob had a quick wit, and you would never want to face him in a game of Scrabble. Bob especially enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia, fishing, and woodworking. Most important was Bob's deep love for their many cats, which are too numerous to list.

Bob spent 38 years of his career at the Post Bulletin as a sports writer and editor. Bob covered some of the most iconic sporting events, including the 'Miracle on Ice', NFL Super Bowls, and the 'Ice Bowl'. He was also a fixture in Minnesota sports. He loved covering 'off-the-beaten path' sports like lumberjack competitions, tug-of-war and the National AAU Junior Olympics. Bob eventually retired in 2006 after writing an estimated 10,000 stories, winning countless awards, and becoming a member of the Rochester Quarterbacks Club Hall of Fame.

Throughout his career, Bob met and interviewed countless athletes, coaches, executives, families, and fans. Both Bob and Carole dedicated their lives to the betterment of the Rochester community, also serving and supporting Rochesterfest and Paws and Claws for decades. To all of you, Bob would thank you again.

Though the final buzzer has signaled the end of regulation, overtime awaits you with Carole, Dennis, Mom and of course Dad. May our heavenly Father embrace you and your family in eternity until we meet again.

Bob is survived by sister Nancy Brown, sister-in-law Jocelyn (Pries) Brown, sister-in-law Babette (LeTendre) Grady, many nieces and nephews and his cat Axle. He was preceded in death by his wife Carole (LeTendre) Brown, brother Dennis Brown, mother Esther (Riewe) Brown, father Gerald Brown, brother-in-law Larry Grady, brother-in-law Lyle LeTendre, and mother-in-law Betty (Goodman) LeTendre.

Services for Bob will be held at noon, Saturday, Aug 1, 2026, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, 1119 11 ½ St SE in Rochester. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service followed by a luncheon. Burial will follow at Rochester's Calvary Cemetery. Donations may be made to Rochester's Paws and Claws or a charity of your choice.
