Obituary

Richard Paul Kuisle, 63, of Winona MN, passed away unexpectedly on November 4, 2017.  Richard was born to Laurence Jerome and Mary Elizabeth (Roeder) Kuisle on February 25, 1954. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Stewartville High School in 1972.

Richard married Jean Christenson in 1978 and raised three loving children. They were later divorced. He attended RCTC and graduated with a Building Utilities and Maintenance degree. He held several jobs as Director of Environmental Services, most recently at St. Anne of Winona, MN. He was also involved in helping to create many of the megalithic structures and cordwood buildings at Kinstone, doing the Kinstone grounds maintenance and he played a vital role in the operation of the Kinstone Kitchen Food Truck. In addition, he provided critical support to the creation, opening, and ongoing operations of Calypso Artisan Market & Specialty Consignment in Winona.

Richard is survived by his children, Tony (Katie) Kuisle, Melissa (Patrick) Zant, and Alex (Katie) Kuisle; grandson, John "Jack" Richard Zant; life partner of 14 years, Clare Schoenfelder; mother, Mary (Roeder) Kuisle; siblings, Frances Kuisle, Tom (Linda) Kuisle, Jim (Marlys) Kuisle, Eileen (Gary) Hartog, Bill (Lisa) Kuisle, Sally (Gary) Detlefson, Dennis (Peggy) Kuisle, John (Carol) Kuisle, Mark (Paula) Kuisle, and Kate (Sara) Kuisle; as well as many nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his father, Laurence Jerome Kuisle.

Richard grew up an avid wrestler and was a state tournament participant. He continued his love of wrestling by officiating youth and high school tournaments. He enjoyed working with his hands and building cordwood and lumber structures including many decks and playsets for his children. He enjoyed grilling and spending time outdoors with his family. Richard recently found joy in spending time with his grandson, Jack. He had an excellent sense of humor and a contagious laugh. He always had a good story to share and was quick to make everyone feel welcomed.

Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 9th at St. Bridget's Catholic Church in Simpson, MN with Fr. John Wilmot officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 8th in St. Bridget's Catholic Church and one hour prior to the Mass at the church on Thursday. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family who will direct funds to the organizations Richard was passionate about.
