The funeral Service for Richard D. Hanson will be at 11:00am, Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Christ United Methodist Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Nancy Wheeler Handlon officiating. Visitation will be 4:00pm – 8:00pm on Wednesday, June 15, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. An Eagles Memorial Service will be held at 7:00pm during the visitation on Wednesday.
Richard D. Hanson died Sunday June 12, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester. He was born July 27 th 1945 in Preston Village to Ray and Ione Hanson.
Dick served in the Navy from 1965 to 1969 being stationed on the aircraft carrier USS LaSalle. Returning from the Navy, he hauled milk and later became a sheet metal serviceman with Alpek Sheet Metal. For a short time he managed the Eagles Club in Rochester before taking over for his father as the Building Superintendent of Christ United Methodist Church.
After 26 years of service, he retired from the church. For the past several years he has served as the Gambling Manager at the Eagles Club in Rochester.
On October 17, 1970 Dick married Judy Dietrich, his high school sweetheart. The couple recently celebrated their 40 th wedding anniversary. Judy is a retired Mayo Clinic employee.
Dick is survived by his wife Judy, daughters Trica (Jason) Katzenberger and Tanya (Matt) Goretzki and grandchildren Julia, Tate, Mason and Sam all of Rochester. Dick is also survived by his mother, Ione of Rochester, 7 siblings, Robert (Carol) Hanson and Shirley (Lester) Laqua of Lake City, Paul (Shelly) Hanson and Steve (Sara) Hanson of Canton, Dennis (Linda) Hanson, Mark (Jeanne) Hanson, Kevin Hanson all of Rochester and a sister-in-law Carol Hanson also of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his father Ray and a brother Jeff.
Dick was proud to say that he was a member of the Eagles Club since 1970, 41 years. He was also a member of the American Legion for many years.
He enjoyed golfing with friends, shooting pool and spending time with family, especially his grandchildren.
Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 92 of Rochester at 12:30pm Thursday, at the Eagles Club.
Memorials are preferred to the Hanson family.
