June 5, 1934 – November 18, 2023
Richard C. "Dick" Fieck, 89 of Rochester, MN, died peacefully at his home with family at his side on Saturday, November 18, 2023, after fighting a battle with congestive heart and kidney failure.
Dick was born June 5, 1934, in Rochester, MN to William and Eva (Northrup) Fieck, the fifth of seven children. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1953.
During high school, he delivered the Minneapolis morning paper seven days per week to all of SE Rochester. Upon graduation, he worked as a Shop Boy for Maass Plumbing and Heating and then started a career of doing auto body work by working at various body shops in Rochester. In 1956 he was inducted into the U.S. Army, spending 19 months in Korea as a Postal Clerk. Following his discharge from Active Duty he continued to serve two years in the Standby Ready Reserve while working at Lincoln Mercury Body Shop, and then Ford Body Shop until becoming employed at IBM from 1960 to 1979. He continued to do auto body work in his home shop until becoming disabled in 2017.
On September 12, 1959, Dick married Maxine Vrieze at the Sumner Center EUB Church in rural Spring Valley.
In 1986, Dick and son Steven opened the doors to Zadeos Pizza, a new family business in Rochester. Dick's grandchildren, Jeffery and Alyssa, along with great grandchildren, Raelee and Mason, make it a four-generation business. Dick and Maxine helped run the Zadeos Red Train concession trailer from 1989 to 2015.
Dick enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially portaging trips into the BWCAW. He looked forward to attending and participating in classic car shows, bus tours, auctions, and time with family. He was an active, long-time member of the church choir.
Dick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Maxine (Vrieze) Fieck; son, Steven (Terri Liebenow) Fieck of Rochester, daughter, Tammy (Michael) Dalton of Mesa, AZ; two grandchildren, Jeffery (Amber Burrington) Fieck of Hayfield and Alyssa (Tommy) DeRoush of Rochester; two great grandchildren, Raelee and Mason Fieck; and sister, Barbara Hemker.
