Richard Clarence Doty, age 92, of Rochester, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at his home of 63 years on June 16, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born on April 12, 1934, in Rochester, Minnesota, to Clarence Edwin Doty and Dorothy Alice (Peake) Doty. He graduated from Stewartville High School in 1952 and earned an academic scholarship to attend Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota, finishing his degree with the University Of Minnesota. A pioneer in the emerging field of computing, Richard began his career with International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) in August 1956 as a computer programmer. Through intelligence and hard work, he built a career that spanned more than 35 years before retiring in October 1991.

On July 27, 1957 Richard married Catherine Therese Small in a joyful double wedding ceremony shared with Catherine's sister, Veronica (Small) Henry, and her husband, John Henry. Together, Richard and Catherine built a loving home centered on faith, family, and service.

Following Catherine's passing on October 7, 1993, Richard found companionship and happiness again, marrying Diane McFadden on September 7, 2002.

Family was the heart of Richard's life. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who found his greatest joy in the people he loved. Whether gathered around the family table, traveling in the family's beloved Mini Winnie RV, tending his garden, or enjoying a good book, Richard treasured the simple blessings of home and family life.

A man of deep and abiding Catholic faith, Richard dedicated his life to living his faith, loving his family, and promoting the dignity of human life. He was active in pro-life ministries including Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL), was a Third Order Knight of Columbus, and a member of the Serra Club, a lay Catholic apostolate that supports and encourages vocations to the priesthood. His faith was not merely something he professed-it was something he lived each day through quiet service, humility, and steadfast devotion.

Those who knew Richard will remember him as a faithful, loyal, honest, and kind man-a gentle giant whose strength was matched by his compassion. His calm presence, unwavering integrity, and dedication to his family left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. Richard is survived by his wife, Diane (McFadden) Doty; his children, David R. (Stephanie)

Doty, Elizabeth A. (Doty) Bauer, Thomas P. (Bronwyn) Doty, and Natalie C. (Joe) Bennett; and his stepchildren, Katherine (Erik) Stensgard and Corinne McFadden.

He was the proud grandfather of 17 grandchildren: Jonathan Doty, Melissa (Doty) Gesinger, Jeffrey Doty, Jason Bauer, Joseph Bauer, Benjamin Bauer, Nicholas Bennett, Maria (Bennett) Hilger, Alexander Bennett, Caleb Bennett, Matthew Bennett, Gianna Bennett, Christina Bennett, Oriana Stensgard, Luna Stensgard, George Stork, and Ernie Stork. He was also blessed with 13 great-grandchildren, with one more expected soon.

Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Catherine Therese Doty and his parents, Clarence Edwin Doty and Dorothy Alice (Peake) Doty.
