Richard J. Battey, 89, of Silver Bay, MN passed away Thursday, August 20, 2026.

Richard was born June 7, 1937, in Lanesboro, MN to Richard and Nora (Jacobson) Battey. He graduated from Adams High School. Richard joined the United States Airforce where he served in the Vietnam War and was an aircraft mechanic for 20 years. He was united in marriage to Linda Flynn in 1981.

Richard was an avid reader, loved playing poker with the guys, going to the casino, working on cars, and spending time with his family. He loved his dogs and enjoyed taking them for walks.

He is survived by his children Nora Candela, Dorie (Ken) Huettl, Gary (Linda) Haas, Sonja Haas, and Debra Iglesias; grandchildren Mark (Helen) Huffman, Christina (Nathan) Pineault, Heather Candela, Santana Igelsias, Rachel Haas, Joe Haas, Xavier Haas, and Nadia Haas; and great-grandchildren Jaclyn Candela, Noah (Natalie) Pineault, Caleb Pineault, and Luke Pineault; and a great-great grandchild Wanda Pineault. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Linda.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 27, 2026, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Thursday. The burial will be in the Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery in Preston, MN.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be designated to the Minnesota Veterans Home in Silver Bay, MN to the recreation fund for the residents.
