“Babe” Hanson
June 9, 1921 – January 20, 2016
The funeral service for Richard "Babe" E. Hanson will be at 1:00 p.m. Monday January 25, 2016 in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, with Rev. Maurice E. Hagen officiating. Burial Will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rochester with military rites provided by American Legion Post #92. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday January 24, 2016 at Macken Funeral Home and one hour before the service on Monday.
Mr. Hanson, 94, of Rochester died of natural causes at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester on Wednesday January 20, 2016.
Richard was born June 9, 1921 in Simpson, MN. to Ross and Grace Butlin Hanson. He married Charlotte Bostrom and they later divorced. Charlotte died May 2, 1997. Babe was a U.S. Marine who fought in the WWII battles of Guadalcanal and Tulagi Island. Babe worked as a master plasterer for many years in Minneapolis and Rochester, and was a member of the VFW and the Twin Cities Plasterers' Local 265.
Richard is survived by his daughter Janine Hanson of Bloomington, MN. and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Janet Applebee, Ruby Sturgis, and Genevieve Brown , and his brothers, Raymond and William Hanson.
Mr. Hanson was a conservationist, an animal lover involved in animal rights and a member of the Humane Society of America. He loved being outdoors, tinkering with his tractor and chopping wood.
Memorials are preferred to Paws and Claws.
