Phyllis Beets, 84, died early morning on Friday, September 9, 2016 after fighting a long, courageous battle with multiple myeloma at Mayo Clinic Cannon Falls surrounded by her family.

Phyllis was born July 12, 1932 in Lake City, MN to Lloyd and Hazel Behrens, living all of her younger years in Elgin with her brother, aunts, uncles, grandparents, cousins, and many friends. Throughout her later years, Phyllis entertained her family, friends, even the cab drivers who helped her on her journeys to and from Mayo Clinic, with the multitude of stories of her childhood years in her beloved hometown. Her wit and wry sense of humor always shining through.

Phyllis is lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Roger Schmitt; her three grandchildren and their spouses, Valerie and Bruce Yeadon, Tim and Tessa Diepenbrock, Ryan and Tina Diepenbrock, her newest loves, her great-grandchildren Kennedy and Colton; her brother and sister-in-law Don and Jan Behrens; and niece and nephew, Wendy and Steve.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Danny; and a niece, Kelli Jo.

A Memorial Gathering for Phyllis will take place 12:00PM to 2:00PM on Monday, September 12 in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Burial will take place at the Elgin Cemetery.
