Philip John Oliveto passed away from complications of COVID at Mayo Clinic Hospital, St. Marys Campus on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the age of 86 years old.
Phil was born in New York City, New York in 1934 to Philip and Josephine Oliveto. He enlisted in the ROTC and graduated from Hofstra University. He then served with the United States Army. He married Veronica (Ronnie) Lanning in 1960, and they moved to Endicott, New York where he began his career with IBM. He was transferred to Rochester, Minnesota where he continued to work for IBM until his retirement.
Phil was known as a "man of integrity". He believed in making the world a better place and giving back. He was especially concerned with the underprivileged and underserved, as well as the refugee community. Phil never really "retired" as he was always busy volunteering his time to community organizations.
He is survived by Ronnie, his loving wife of 60 years; son, Tom (Mary) Oliveto of Rochester; daughters, Sharon (Don) Gabrielson of Rochester and Kathy (Danny) Anderson of Pine Island; 8 grandchildren; and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son, and an infant granddaughter.
Memorials suggested to Benedictine Madonna Towers of Rochester, Home Instead Senior Care, The Minnesota Guardian ad Litem Program or Mayo Clinic Alzheimer's Disease Research Center.
