The funeral Mass for Percy J. Ryan will be at 11:00am Saturday, December 15, 2012 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester with the Rev. Paul Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Percy died Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Samaritan Bethany Home on 8 th of natural causes.
Percy Joseph Ryan was born August 11, 1918 on the family farm in the village of South Troy, Zumbro Township, Wabasha County, to Joseph and Mary Anna (Kohn) Ryan. He grew up on the family farm. In October of 1940 he enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Alaska's Aleutian Islands, Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was discharged in September of 1945.
Returning to Minnesota, in 1948 he attended barber school in Minneapolis. In Rochester he worked at four different locations ending up cutting hair at his home in northwest Rochester. Percy retired from barbering in April of 2008.
On June 7,1950, Percy married Frances Dilworth at St. Johns Catholic Church in Rochester. Mrs. Ryan was a homemaker and retired tax accountant. Frances died January 4, 2008.
He was a member of American Legion Post 92, Eagles and VFW. He also enjoyed time at the lake fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, and spending time with friends and family .
He is survived by three daughters, Donna R. Newell of Forest Lake, MN, Judy A. (Jon) Willoughby of Lake Nebagamon, WI, and Kathy J. (Buck) Burns of Orlando, FL; seven grandchildren, Michael and Christy Newell, Jason (Ally) Willoughby, Jenna Willoughby, Stacy Roberts, Sally Roberts-Buchuli and Pattie Burns; one sister, Anna Marie (Elton) Butlin of Rochester; and one brother, George Ryan of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Frances, and two brothers, Stanley and William Ryan; and three foster brothers, George Engelhart, Ted Terzakis and Alex Kiskin.
A visitation will be from 4:00-7:00PM, Friday, December 14, 2012 in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
Memorials are suggested to St. Pius Building Fund.
