Obituary

Pauline Josephine (Baker) Outcalt, 92, of Stewartville passed away on Monday, April 1 and is now in Heaven's Garden.

A Funeral service will be held at the Chatfield United Methodist Church on Friday, April 5, 2013 at 3:30 PM with Kathy Hanson officiating.  Visitation will be from 1:30 PM until the time of the service on Friday at the church.  Burial will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Pauline was born May 3, 1920 in Pleasant Grove Township to Roy and LuLa (Bernard) Baker.  She attended rural country school through the eighth grade.  She married Harold Outcalt on August 16, 1953.  They made their home in Pleasant Grove Township and she was proud to be a lifetime resident.  Pauline was a homemaker and care giver but also had worked several jobs; Camera Arts in Lewiston, AFC and Yust Variety Store in Chatfield as well as cleaning homes in Rochester.

She was a member of the Chatfield United Methodist Church.  She was involved as a 4-H leader with the Pleasant Grove Producers.  She was an "old fashion" cook and was always willing to share a recipe or a skill.  She was known for her green thumb and she loved caring for her flowers and growing garden produce.

Her mother died at a young age, she became a caregiver.  Families entrusted her with caring for their children.  When a sister was ill, she welcomed her into her home.

In her 92 years, she saw and experienced a world of change; the horse to space flight; hardship of the Depression and World War II to building their house, and her grandchildren sharing with her the computer and digital age.  She was enthusiastic to share local and family history.  Family gatherings were important to her and she was proud of hosting the family Memorial Day picnic for 50 years.

Pauline loved music and dancing.  She also enjoyed a good polka or waltz.

Pauline is survived by her children:  Wayne Baker of Stewartville, Denise Haefner and Deanna Outcalt of Rochester; her grandchildren:  Wendy (Dan) Crawford of Lakeville, Jody (Joe) Leise of Red Wing, Kirsten Haefner of Rochester and Larissa Haefner of Madison, WI; and her great-grandchildren: Riley, Ellie & Josiah Crawford and Jackson & Jedrick Leise; brother-in-law, Thayne "Charlie" Koelsch of Pine Island and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband Harold, Pauline is preceded in death by her siblings; Dorothy Franks, Elva Bryan, Helen Hanson, LuLa Koelsch and James Baker.

The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff of the Chosen Valley Care Center Staff and Season's Hospice for their excellent care and also to the members of the Chatfield Methodist Church for their visits and prayers.
