Obituary

Orvis Joseph Dahl born in Chatfield, MN, passed away Monday, October 8, 2018.

Orvis was the son of Elvin and Anorah (Kolstad) Dahl born October 6, 1937. He was baptized and confirmed at Pilot Mound Lutheran Church. He went to Thorson Country School from September 1943 to May 1951 and graduated from Chatfield High School in June 1955.

He married the love of his life, Phyllis Ellen Wobschall at St. John's Lutheran Church in Mazeppa, MN on October 31, 1959.

Orvis served in the Army, stationed in Oklahoma City, OK before returning to Rochester, MN where he worked first in General Service at Mayo Clinic and Respiratory Therapy. He then went on to become a respiratory therapist, and later became supervisor until he retired in 1994. He was the president of the Minnesota Society of Respiratory in 1973 and 1984.

Orvis led a full, rich life. He greatly enjoyed many outdoor activities including hunting and fishing. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church since 1964, where he served as an Elder for several years. He enjoyed traveling and casino trips with his family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and was always ready to share a story or joke to make those around him laugh. He also loved spending time playing card games with his grandchildren and treating them to donuts every chance he could.

Orvis is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, Michelle (David) Blanchard, Stacy Danks, and Joseph (Jolene) Dahl; his sister, Doris Horsman; brother, Gordon (Carole) Dahl; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his in-laws, Harold (Janis) Wobschall, Gerald (Georgeann) Wobschall, William Wobschall, Donald (Butch) Wobschall, Laurel Johns, and Lou Jean Ingham.

He is preceded in death by his eldest daughter, Shari Oldenburg; grandson, Colton Oldenburg; his parents, Elvin and Anorah Dahl; his brother, Edward Dahl; brother-in-law, Duane Horsman; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Percy and Lavina Wobschall; sister-in-law, Sandra Wobschall; and brother-in-law, LeRoyce Ingham.

A memorial service in honor of Orvis will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Redeemer Lutheran Church with Rev. Benjamin Loos officiating. Military Honors will be accorded by the Mazeppa American Legion Post #588. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, October 12 at Redeemer Lutheran Church and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
