Norin Hilmer

October 22, 1926 – March 1, 2016
Norin Korsmo, 89, of Rochester passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016 under hospice care in Rochester.
He was born Norin Hilmer Korsmo October 22, 1926 in Northwood, North Dakota to Norin H. Korsmo, Sr. and Hilda (Hovland) Korsmo. He served in the US Army from 1949 to 1951, attaining the rank of corporal and was stationed at Camp Rucker, Alabama. On August 18, 1962 he married Joan Evjen O'Connor.
Norin worked as a salesman for Reynolds Wholesale in Rochester for 39 years and retired in 1992. He later worked for Minter Weisman (who bought Reynolds Wholesale in 1986) in addition to working for other companies. Throughout the years he belonged to many groups, including Pheasants Forever, Rochester Gun Club, Shriners, Early Risers Exchange Club, Noon Exchange Club, Bible study groups, Monday Quarterback Club and his poker group for 60 years.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; a daughter, Robyn Perez; grandchildren Melissa (Ryan) Perez Murphy of Welch, MN, Nicholas Perez and Timothy Perez, both of Dublin, OH. Surviving great-grandchildren are Reagan and Knox Murphy of Welch, MN. Also surviving are his brother, Richard Korsmo and sisters, Lenore Meland and Valborg (Ingvald) Berdal. In addition he is also survived by sister-in-law, Mary Korsmo and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joseph, Alvin and Peder and a sister, Solveig Strand. He was also preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Wesley Meland and sisters-in-law Dolores Korsmo and Beatrice Korsmo.
A memorial service is scheduled at 11:00 a.m., March 14th, 2016 at Bethel Lutheran Church in Rochester officiated by Rev. Norman Wahl. Visitation will be at the church, one hour prior to the service. Military rites will be provided at the church by American Legion Post 92. Norin's cremains will be inurned in the church's columbarium upon completion of its construction.
