October 2, 1924 – February 1, 2023
Neva May Hain 98, of Rochester passed away peacefully of natural causes on Wednesday Feb 1st 2023, with her family at her side. Neva was born to Granville and Avis Street on October 2, 1924, at the family farm in Winneshek County Iowa. There she spent her childhood, attending school and wo rking alongside her 5 siblings on the farm. She enjoyed sharing stories of farm life durning the depression including her least favorite job of cleaning the separator. She attended William Penn College and after went to the Kahler School of Nursing where she achieved her RN degree. On April 5th, 1950 she united into marriage with Robert (Bob) Hain at the Hesper Friends Church in Hesper Iowa. After marriage they resided in Rochester MN where Neva gave up her Nursing Career to raise her 4 children. By all accounts she was a loving, kind and generous mom. And the same as a grandmother, to her 11 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
Neva enjoyed sewing, knitting (especially her famous grandma slippers), reading, word search puzzles and going on road trips and vacations with Bob including 3 times to Hawaii. She liked to go camping and fishing which they did quite often with one or more of their children.
Neva is survived by her four children, Mike (Sharon Bretto) Hain of Kasson, Linda (Steve) Gilbertson, Tom (Margaret) Hain, and Rob (Darla) Hain, her sister Karen Tracy all of Rochester. Her 11 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was proceeded in death by her husband, 2 brothers, 2 sisters and her parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, February 9, 2023 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 8, 2023 from 4:00-7:00 pm at Macken Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens at a later date.
