The funeral service for Natalie "Nat" Rogers will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 6, 2011 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with the Rev. Thomas Loomis officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery East. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one half hour prior to the service on Thursday.
Natalie Rogers, 82 , of Rochester, MN, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2011 at her residence after fighting a courageous battle against Metastatic Sarcomatoid Carcinoma.
Nat was born on September 9 th , 1929 to William and Dorothy (Nicol) Knight in Detroit, Michigan. She graduated from Baldwin High School in Birmingham, Michigan in 1947 and from LaSalle Junior College in Auburndale, Massachusetts with a degree in Retail Merchandizing in 1949. She married John "Jack" Vincent Rogers on December 9 th , 1950. The couple moved to Rochester from Michigan in 1972. She and Jack owned and operated The Donut Hut in Rochester, along with the Burger Hut, TCBYs and Natalie's Hallmark. Nat was especially fond of Natalie's Hallmark which she owned/operated and then managed until retiring in 2007.
Survivors include her four daughters; Teresa (Tom) Gheen of Rochester, Jeanne (Jim) Kennedy of Prescott, WI, Linda (Ken) Bowar of Rochester and Jan (Bob) Helland of Rochester, 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marilyn Bailey of Birmingham, MI and a special childhood friend, Steve Currier of Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack and her parents.
Nat loved animals, bird watching, golf, traveling, reading and the occasional glass of chardonnay. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Nat was a very selfless, courageous and humble person. She will be greatly missed by her daughters, their families and friends.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Mayo Hospice team of nurses and volunteers. They are truly the saints and angels walking amongst us.
