Muzaffer Cicek, Ph.D.
Muzaffer ("Muzo") Cicek, Ph.D., 45, of Rochester, died Sunday, June 24, 2012 at his home, following a long illness.
Dr. Cicek was born in Ankara, Turkey on November 25, 1966 to Mirza and Makbule Cicek. He holds a Master's degree in Food Engineering from Ankara University in Turkey, as well as a Master's degree and Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, VA.
Muzaffer completed professional training in the Department of Cancer Biology, Lerner Research Institute at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH. Prior to his death, he was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
Muzaffer married Mine Sengur in Istanbul, Turkey on December 12, 1992, and moved to the US in 1993. He was well known for his love of cooking, and most enjoyed spending time with family and close friends.
He is survived by his wife, Mine, son Hakan, and daughter Melis, all of Rochester; his mother, Makbule; brother Zafer; and sister Leyla, all of Ankara, Turkey.
A private service will be held at 5pm on Monday, June 25, 2012 at the Macken Funeral Home in Rochester. Visitation will follow from 5:45 – 7:00pm.
