Monica McCarty Clark, age 84, of Zumbrota, MN, formerly of Rochester, MN, died Friday, January 4, 2019 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester after a short battle with pancreatic cancer.
Monica A. was born August 27, 1934 in Springfield, MN, the daughter of Mathias and Theresa (Prokosch) Schumacher. She was united in marriage to Francis McCarty June 21, 1955 in Leavenworth, MN. Monica provided daycare out of her home, and worked as a lunch lady for the Rochester Public School District for 23 years until her retirement. Frank preceded her in death in 1997.
Monica married Donald Clark at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Rochester on October 13, 2001. Monica and Don traveled around the United States together, including trips to Sturgis and New Orleans. She enjoyed shopping and going to the casino. She was a Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. She was also a faithful follower of Days of Our Lives, and had been watching since the show first aired. She was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Monica loved spending time with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and cheering them on at all of their sports and activities.
Monica is survived by her husband, Don of Zumbrota; daughter, Myrna (Bill) Hanson of Rochester, and son, Patrick (Brenda) McCarty of Fountain Hills, AZ; grandchildren: Doug Hanson, and Mara (Nick) Mietzner of Rochester, Lauren McCarty (Louis Rownd) of Washington, DC, and Sara McCarty (Dylan Miller) of Gilbert, AZ; siblings: Mary Griffin of Minneapolis, MN, and Fr. Paul Schumacher of Winsted, MN; Don's children: Larry (Julie) Clark of Iowa, Jeanne (Lou) Kuhlmann of Byron, MN, Cindy (Don) Grant of Chatfield, MN, and Mark (Ruth) Clark of Plainview, MN; special granddaughter, Shannon (Mat) Schaefer of Wanamingo, MN, and many other grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her first husband, Frank; siblings: Adrian, Gerald, Dennis and Daniel Schumacher, Eileen Braun, and Margaret Bauer.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at 11:00 AM in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 8 from 4 – 7 PM at Macken Funeral Home River Park Chapel in Rochester, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to Seasons Hospice in Rochester.
