Schirger

Dr. Milada Schirger, 92, passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born on July 23, 1927, in Trubin, Czech Republic to Karel and Frantiska Kloubek. She received her doctorate in Education from the Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic. As a young woman, she was imprisoned in a communist concentration camp for 5 years for participation in a Catholic student group. She was finally allowed to emigrate to the United States to join her future husband, Alex, in 1965. Milada and Alex were married at St. Augustine's Church in St. Cloud, MN on August 7, 1965. Milada lived the rest of her life in Rochester, MN, loving both the country she came from and her new homeland. She will be missed by the family she loved so dearly.
Milada is survived by her son John (Zita) Schirger of Rochester; her daughter Annie (John) Mitchell of Omaha; 4 grandchildren, Mary Jo, Rosie, Nathan, and Christopher; her brother, Jan Kloubek of Prague, and her niece Lucie (Simon) Thomas and their children Sophie and Daniel of Plano, TX.
She is preceded in death by her husband Alex, her parents, her sister-in-law Olga Kloubkova, and a baby sister.
A visitation will be held in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, 1105 12 St. SE, on Friday, November 8th from 4:00-7:00p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at Church of the Resurrection, 1600 11 Ave. SE, on Saturday, November 9th at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior to the Mass. The burial will be immediately following the Mass at Calvary Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at the Eagles Club, 917 15 Ave. SE.
