Michael Anthony
Scovill
December 20, 1946 – May 2, 2024
Michael A Scovill, 77, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, passed away on May 2, 2024, surrounded by family.
He was born to parents Donald and Beverly Scovill, on December 20, 1946, in Springfield Minnesota. Michael graduated from Walnut Grove High School and received a degree in Political Science from Saint Cloud State University. He joined the Army on 01 March 1967. He volunteered to go to Vietnam, however, it was determined he was better suited serving his country in Puerto Rico until 20 February 1970. Upon returning home, he ran for office on three separate occasions. He had a passion for politics his whole life.
Along with his passion for politics, Michael was known for his love of the outdoors. He enjoyed deer hunting. Michael had a fondness for firearms, more specifically, old military weapons. He also loved to fish. Countless fishing trips and tales could be recounted. Nature was another interest of his and this is exemplified through his volunteering with the Cub/Boy Scouting programs. All four sons were actively engaged in Scouts with one earning the rank of Eagle Scout.
Religion was very important to Michael. This is evident with him becoming a member of the Franciscan Order of the Catholic Church. He incorporated religion into his daily life through prayer, reciting the rosary and scouting as that is one of the twelve points of the Scout Law.
He married and had four sons who survive him: Bryce of Fargo North Dakota, Erick of Blooming Prairie Minnesota, Phillip of St. Cloud Minnesota, and Raymond of Albert Lea Minnesota. Michael is also survived by Debra (Bruce) Berg of Storden, Minnesota, Greg (Gloria) Scovill of Cushing, Wisconsin, Therese Cleveland of Taylors, South Carolina, and Mary (Alan) Johnson of Murrieta, California, as well as three grandchildren. Michael was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Beverly Scovill.
The funeral Mass for Michael Scovill will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Resurrection Catholic Church with Rev. Shawn Haremza officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. A private burial will be held later at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Lamberton, MN.
