Obituary

Listen to Obituary

Michael “Mike” Jon Henry passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2026 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. He was born in Faribult, MN on June 25, 1946 to Lorretta Oriene (Zabel) Herr.

After a brief courtship and two marriage proposals, Mike married Linda Marie Zirbes on September 29, 1973, at St. John the Evangelist Church in Rochester, MN. They welcomed three children, Chad, Shane, and Malinda and to keep things interesting, they had each of their children in different states.

Mike proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He served as Commander, VFW Post 1215 and was a lifetime member.

Mike was an avid horseman, helping to train many horses throughout his years and sharing this passion with his daughter and granddaughter, Lorra. He loved taking road trips through the back country, often accompanied by his good friend Frank Hildman. He enjoyed woodworking, reading, and soaking up the sun while sitting in his driveway, watching the world pass by.

He is survived by his two sons, Chad (Nicki) and Shane Henry; daughter, Malinda (John) Wilcox; grandchildren, Hannah (Greyson), Brayden (Emily), Alexis, Michael, Melia, Lorra, and Clara; great-grandchildren, Micah and Tilly; his faithful steed Big Red; brothers, Tom and Jerry; sisters-in-law, Shirley Henry, Patricia Henry, Rhonda (Mike) Franken, and Carol Zirbes; brother-in-law, Dave Zirbes; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 50 years, Linda; his mother and father, Lorretta and Clarence Herr; sister, Janet Heille; brothers, James Henry and Clarence (Rick) Herr; father-in-law, Clarence (Red) Zirbes; mother-in-law, Pat Zirbes; brothers-in-law, Gary, Mike, and Randy Zirbes; and sister-in-law, Barbara Beranek.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to those who provided exceptional care to him throughout the years including Drs. Joseph Furst, Donald Engen, and Igor Frank, and special nurses, Teddy and Abby.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, November 3 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, November 2 in the River Park Chapel and one hour prior to the service. The burial will be at Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
