Maurice "Maurie" Greene
Maurice, "Maurie", Anthony Greene, 87, of Rochester, passed away October 18, 2024, at Shorewood Senior Living in Rochester.
Maurice was born on May, 25 th , 1937 to Anthony & Bernice Greene at their home in Salem township. He grew up in Stewartville and graduated from Stewartville High School in 1955. He played football starting on the varsity squad as a sophomore. At age 16, he met the love of his life, Alice Adamson, when they were both working at the laundromat at St. Mary's Hospital. He and Alice were married on September 8 th , 1956.
Maurice and Alice lived together in Byron for a few years before moving to Rochester. After living in Rochester for several years, they built a home out on their 10-acre hobby farm with Maurice doing much of the work himself. After retirement, they moved back into Rochester.
Maurice worked for Viker & Sorenson Water Company, the city of Rochester Water Dept and IBM. At IBM, he worked in manufacturing and management.
After retiring from IBM, Maurice & Alice enjoyed golfing, going to the casinos and making lots of friends while wintering in Lake Havasu, AZ, Brownsville, TX and Gulf Shores, AL. True to his Norwegian heritage, they both loved going to lutefisk dinners all across southeastern Minnesota.
Maurice loved golfing, hunting and fishing, and watching the Minnesota Vikings. He loved his hobby farming and was a great handyman. He loved spending time with family.
Maurice was very active in the Byron Sportsman Club serving many roles throughout the years. He was also President of their home owner's association He was a member of the Pax Christi Church.
Maurice is survived by his loving wife, Alice, of Rochester and their son, Jeffrey (Teresa) of Byron, and daughter Karen (Tom) Taylor of Rochester. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Paul (Tara) Greene, Nicole (John) Berschback, Jake (Haley) Taylor, and Brianna (Drew) Cooper and 9 great-grandchildren: Ethan, Andrew, Jax, Logan, Dylan, Will, Taylor, Camille, and Zoe and 1 brother, Dale Greene.
He is preceded in death by his parents and 3 sisters.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday evening and 1 hour before the service at the Macken Funeral Home in Rochester. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at Macken Funeral Home in Rochester.
Memorials are suggested to the Catholic Charities or Mayo Hospice.
