Matthias Eduard "Ed" Sehl – Rochester

Matthias Eduard "Ed" Sehl II, age 78 of Rochester, passed away at his home on Wednesday evening, September 25, 2024.

Ed was born on January 17, 1946, at St. Marys Hospital Rochester to Francis and Beatrice (Keily) Sehl. He was the oldest of 15 children. He graduated from Lourdes High School in 1964. He attended Washington University in St. Louis, MO, Rochester Community College, and the University of Minnesota, receiving a BA degree in History. On August 30, 1969, he married Jerelyn "Jeri" Ryan in Davenport, IA. They lived in Minneapolis briefly before moving to Rochester in August of 1970 where they lived for the past 54 years. Ed worked for the Nicotine Dependence Center at Mayo Clinic for over 20 years. He retired during the Covid epidemic. He loved hunting pheasants with his brothers and dogs, the Saint Louis Cardinals, the Minnesota Vikings, and the Rochester Public Library.

Ed is survived by his wife Jeri of Rochester, his son Joseph of Apple Valley, MN, 10 siblings, and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Bea and Francis, sisters Barb and Deb, brother John, infant brother Anthony and an infant son, Matthias Eduard III.

The Funeral Service for Ed will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, October 12, 2024, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the chapel. A luncheon is planned to follow.

Memorials are preferred to Clean Water Action or Lourdes High School.
