Obituary

Mary Lucille (Breckle) Manahan, 76, passed away peacefully at home on August 19th, 2012, surrounded by her family following a recent battle with cancer.

Mary was born on October 13, 1935 to Frank and Neil (Fitzpatrick) Breckle in Rochester. She attended grade school in Simpson, MN and at St. John's in Rochester. She graduated from Lourdes High School in 1953.

She married Christopher Manahan (son of Donald and Veronica Manahan) of Chatfield, MN on November 14, 1959 at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rochester. They built their home in rural northeast Rochester in 1961 and enjoyed living in the country with many wonderful neighbors.

Mary began working at the Mayo Clinic in the Neurology/Psychiatry section immediately after high school, where she served as a desk attendant for 12 years prior to starting a family. She returned to Mayo in 1982 where she worked in the Central Appointment desk until her retirement in 1999. She valued her work and the friends she met through the years at the Clinic.

Mary was a lifetime member of St Francis Catholic Church, where she served on the Altar Society and volunteered at school.

In her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening, reading, completing jigsaw puzzles, visiting garage sales, and shopping at antique stores. Her grandchildren meant the world to her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Chris, in 2009. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Breckle, and brothers-in-law Norbert and Cyril Huneke.

She is survived by her daughters, Amy (John) Dominski of Eau Claire, WI, Sharon Manahan of Green Bay, WI, and Marlene (Jon) Podolske of Plainview, MN; grandchildren Chris and Dan Dominski of Eau Claire and Shannon Podolske of Plainview; a brother, Charles Breckle of Rochester; sisters-in-law Carol Breckle of Rochester, Rita Huneke of Bellechester, Therese Huneke of Zumbrota, and Kate (David) Jones of Rochester, and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a visitation on Tuesday, August 21 in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home from 4 to 8 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 22, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Rochester, with Father Paul Nelson celebrating. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be at Oakwood East Cemetery following the service.

The family would especially like to thank Katie Zahasky, Clinical Nurse Practitioner with Mayo Clinic, for her many years of caring for Mary. In addition, very special gratitude is extended to the staff of Mayo Hospice for their recent support.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
