There will be a visitation one hour before the service. Mary was born December 24, 1932, in Murphysboro, Illinois, to Lillie and Dr. Rev. E. H. Bohrer. She attended Valparaiso University and was installed as Deaconess for St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minnesota, where she met Douglas William Koepsell. Mary and Doug were married on August 31, 1957, at St. Matthew, then moved to the Moorhead area where Doug finished his teaching degree. They lived in Delavan and St. Paul, Minnesota before settling in Cambridge, where they lived for 33 years. Retired in 1996, they moved to a lake home in Pine City, and in 2004 to Rochester.
Mrs. Koepsell died July 31, 2015, at Maple Manor in Rochester.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Helen. She is survived by her husband Doug; her children and their families: Joyce Koepsell; Janice, Tom, and Hannah Zdrazil; Scott, Shari, Adam, and Alex & Margaret Koepsell; three siblings: Eunice, Dot, and John; and many nieces and nephews.
Though she worked at the library in Cambridge for many years, her true joy and calling was in ministry to the church and its people, through singing in the choir and leading and participating in Bible studies, women's retreats and prayer ministries. She will also be remembered by many for her faithful correspondence through the years. Memorials are preferred to Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Hour, or World Vision.
