Mrs. Marilyn Jeanne (Poll) Dickie, 93, of Rochester, MN died peacefully Friday, July 7th at 9:02am at the Samaritan Bethany Nursing Home with Mel, her husband of 73 years, holding her hand.

Her funeral will be at the Macken Funeral Home, 1105 12th Street SE, Rochester, MN 55904, at 11:00am Saturday, July 29, 2017 with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00am and lunch from 12:00 to 1:00pm.

Marilyn Jeanne Poll was born on April 13th, 1924 at St. Andrews Hospital, Minneapolis, MN to C. Arthur and Lula Williams Poll. She graduated from Rolla, MO High School and briefly attended nurses training at Kahler School of Nursing before leaving to get married. On October 23, 1943, she married Melvin W. Dickie in a pastor's office in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. They had met during her father's pastorate in Cleveland, MN from 1929 through 1936 and later became sweethearts. During WWll, Mel was stationed in Texas teaching flight training. Following the war, they returned to MN and lived in Le Sueur until their move to Rochester in 1957. In the late 70s, she returned to Rochester Community College to get the training she needed to get a job at the Mayo Clinic, where she worked for 10 years before retiring in 1992.

Survivors include her husband, Melvin W. Dickie; two sons, Thomas (Sara) Dickie of St. Paul, MN, and Timothy (Barbara) Dickie of Maplewood, MN; two daughters, Ann (Mike) French of Stewartville, MN, and Mary (Mark) Suhr of Rochester, MN; 8 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Above all else, Marilyn loved her Lord and her family (being with them and taking care of them). She also enjoyed reading (especially her Bible), roses and playing bridge. Few people know that she was an accomplished table tennis player (girls high school champ) and had the uncanny ability to write mirror images of her signature using both hands simultaneously.

Memorials are preferred to the Mayo Foundation Alzheimer's Research.
