The funeral service for Marie J. Runge will be at 11:00am Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at Grace Lutheran Church in Rochester with Rev. Greg Heidorn officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 5:00pm to 7:00pm on Monday May 4th in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Mrs. Runge, 91, passed away April 25, 2015 at Benton, Kentucky from complications of a recent stroke. She had been living in Benton so she could be near family. Marie J. Solem was born June 24, 1923 at Soldiers Grove, WI to Lloyd and Olga Solem. As a child the family moved to Decorah, Iowa where she grew up. Following high school Marie did nursing. On March 19, 1948, she married Carl L. Runge in Colorado Springs, CO. Carl died December 13, 2010. The family has lived in Rochester for many years. Carl was a retired sheet metal worker. Following her marriage, Marie was a homemaker and later worked seasonally at Libby's. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and canning. Marie taught Sunday school and vacation bible school. Survivors include three daughters, Bonnie (Mark) Shult of North Mankato, MN, Carla Firnschild of San Francisco, CA and Bertha (Kelly) Wilson of Benton, KY: 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; 3 brothers; Gordon Solem of Seattle, WA, John(Virginia) Solem of Rochester, Don Solem of Pine Island and one sister Grace(Ralph) Barker of Council Bluff, Iowa.
