Margaret Mary
St. George
March 16, 1925 – December 8, 2017
Margaret St George went quietly into that good night, Dec 7, 2017. Born March 16, 1925 in Minneapolis, she loved playing piano. At age 3, she played boogie woogie tunes, her feet barely reaching the floor. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from MacPhail Music College. She played professionally as an accompanist for Gertrude Lippincott. During WWII, she worked at the New Brighton Munitions plant and in 1950, married a smooth talking salesman named Joe St George. They settled down in Rochester to raise 5 children. Joe worked most of his career at KROC and Margaret tended the home fires while teaching piano lessons. She tried to retire many times after Joe's death in 1998 but her love of music and her students (especially the Levan and Fitzpatrick families) kept her happily at the piano the rest of her days.
Margaret was a kind and joyful person. She had a razor sharp wit, loved to eat any meal made by someone else and was a gin rummy card shark to the very end. She kept an open home, welcoming anyone who needed an ear, a second mother to more than a few people through the years. She loved her circle of lady friends, she and "the girls" would do puzzles, play cards and, you guessed it, do lunch!
In addition to her husband Joe, she is predeceased by her oldest son, Patrick. She is survived by her children: Frank (Jan), Mary (Matt), John and Will. Margaret was the proud Grandmother of Joseph III, Eric, Craig, Tim, Stephanie, Mike, Sean, David Arnett, Katie, Drew, Sam, Nick, Danielle, and Twins Sam and Dave. She was a Great Grandma eleven times over. She had long made her peace with Our Lord, was ready to go, slightly irritated that it was taking so long but was hoping for a peek at great Grandchild #12 in 2018.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 am, Friday December 15th, 2017 at St Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester with the Rev. Russell Scepaniak officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service.
