Obituary

Margaret H. (Woodruff) Schmit was born in Rochester on September 15, 1927 and passed away on January 30, 2013 in Des Moines, Iowa, where she had been living with her son and his wife for the past year.

Margaret married Robert Way Schmit on Sept. 20, 1947, at St. John's Catholic Church in Rochester. Both Margaret and Bob worked at the Mayo Clinic, until they retired.

Margaret is survived by her daughter Linda Davidson (Dale), of Orlando, Florida, and her son, James "Jim" Robert Schmit (Cindy) of Des Moines, Iowa; three grandchildren, Lisa Hatch (Gary), Lori Cousinou (Jeff) and Jeff Davidson; and seven great grandchildren. Her husband Bob preceded her in death on April 30, 1999, as did her sister, Carma (Mason) Vinapol.

Margaret loved watching all sports, but her favorites were the Twins, Vikings, NASCAR and the Lakers. She was fun to be around, loved playing jokes and was a very generous person to everyone around her. She became a diligent correspondent after moving to Des Moines to keep in touch with her many friends in Minnesota and around the country.

A Funeral Mass will be held in Rochester at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2013, with the Rev. Mark McNea officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass. A lunch and joyous celebration of Margaret's life with her many friends and family will follow the Mass.
