Obituary

Margaret Annie Moehnke, 81, of Eyota, Minnesota died at St. Marys Hospital on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 of chronic respiratory illness.

Born Margaret Annie Thompson on August 13, 1935 in Rolette, North Dakota to Oscar and Penelope (Campbell) Thompson. She grew up on a farm in rural ND and farmed with horses with her mother and father. Margaret played the baritone in the Cando High School Band. She was the first woman to win the Golden Key Constitutional award from the North Dakota Bar Association in 1953. She then got on the train and came to Rochester to attend the Kahler Methodist School of Nursing where she earned the degree of Registered Nurse in 1956. Margaret was a registered nurse for 60 years. On April 7, 1958, Margaret married Marlowe John Moehnke in Cando, North Dakota.

Margaret was a lifelong member of St. Paul United Church of Christ, where she served as a church council member, officer in the women's guild, and Sunday school teacher. She was a Brownie leader, founding member of the Eyota Volunteer Ambulance, serving as an active member for 20 years, volunteer knitter for Bundles of Love, and avid supporter of the Dover Eyota Drama Program with costume sewing. Margaret was also a past president of the American Legion and remained a lifelong member.

Margaret is survived by three daughters, Barbara Ann (Greg) Mueller of Marshfield, Wisconsin, Nancy Ann (Tony) Hammel of Kansas City, Missouri, and Carla (Scott) Brunsvold of Eyota, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Andrew (Tracy), Jennifer (Scott), Benjamin (Carolyn), Adam (Andrea), and Samantha; and one great-grandchild , Halina. She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar Thompson; mother, Penelope Thompson; and husband, Marlowe.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 8 from 5:00-8:00PM in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be at 11:00AM on Tuesday, May 9 at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Eyota with Rev. Jean Boese and Rev. Paul Bauch officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at the St. Paul's Church Cemetery with a luncheon to follow.

Memorials are preferred to St. Paul's United Church of Christ Technology Fund or Eyota Volunteer Ambulance service.
