Margaret Evelyn (Smith) Keller was born on April 8, 1934, in Swift County, Minnesota to Leonard and Ruth Smith. She was raised in the Holloway area and had many fond memories of those times. Margaret graduated from her beloved Holloway High School in 1952. While attending school she participated in many activities including class plays, carnivals, cheerleading, and score keeping for the boys’ sports to name a few.

Margaret met her husband, John Keller, in high school. After graduation, she attended one year of teachers’ training and taught at a nearby country school. The couple continued to date and were married November 26,1953. The young couple moved to the Twin Cities in 1954 to begin their “city” life together. They visited many churches in the area but decided to become members at Riverview Baptist Church in 1959.

Margaret was very active in church. She was a Jr. High youth advisor, Sunday school teacher, Christian Education (CE) board member, choir member, and music committee member. She participated in many other church activities including sewing costumes for all the choir cantatas.

Margaret and John had two daughters. Dawn was born on April 24, 1961, and Melodee was born on January 29, 1965. The family continued to expand when their precious grandchildren were born and later the great grandchildren.

Margaret enjoyed many things such as piano playing, singing, sewing, baking, and homemaking. She spent many years as a home daycare provider and also an employee for Minnesota Fabric/Hancock Fabrics. She was an excellent seamstress and salesperson at the fabric store and many people in the community knew her because of that role.

Margaret loved being a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and in her later years a great grandmother. As much as she loved her family her most important relationship in her life was with Jesus. She once wrote “A Christian isn’t a name to be carried but a life be lived”. Margeret lived that life and went to be with the Lord on October 9, 2026, at the age of 92 and six months.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents Leonard and Ruth Smith, husband John Keller, daughter Melodee Dixon, brothers Allen and Jerome Smith, sisters Merrian Thompson and Jeannine Sachs, brothers-in-law Dean Thompson, Orville Sachs and William Jagow and niece Pam Thompson. She is survived by her daughter Dawn (Wesley) Thompson, grandchildren Nick Schnarr, Ashlie Featherstone, Sam (Jordan) Dixon, and Cyril Thompson, great grandchildren Raef, Elin, Addison and Isla, sister Kathy Jagow, brother Jim Smith along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Margaret was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She will be missed!

A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 23, 2026, at Riverview Baptist Church, 14 Moreland Avenue East, West St. Paul, MN 55118.
