Margaret A
Baker
January 23, 1936 – October 7, 2025
Margaret Baker, of Rochester, MN, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025. Born at home on a farm near Lourdes on January 23, 1936, she was delivered by a neighbor and, like many of her generation, began her life without an official birth certificate. As an infant, she slept in a cardboard box or a dresser drawer, a humble beginning for a woman whose life would be defined by quiet strength and enduring love.
Following her father's death, Margaret and her mother moved to several different farms before finding one with the modern conveniences of electricity and a phone line. She attended kindergarten through eighth grade in a one-room schoolhouse. After graduating from high school, she dedicated over 40 years of service to St. Marys Hospital.
In her life, Margaret found the love of her life, Ron. The two dated for two years before marrying and building a beautiful family together. Their union was a partnership built on affection and mutual respect. They raised a son, Ronald, and a daughter, Karma, instilling in them the values of hard work and compassion that had guided Margaret's own life.
Some of Margaret's favorite things included reading, watching old westerns, going to "The Island", and spending time with her beloved family; especially her little "cuddle bug" Simon.
Margaret's memory will be forever cherished by her children, Ronald Baker and Karma Shamblin. She is also lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Hannah (Lucas), Carter, Amanda (Ted) Wirtz; great grandchildren, Jayden, Ivy, and Simon. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Kay Baker, and many nieces and nephews, who were all touched by her kind and welcoming spirit.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Ronald, sister Gladys (Ray)Bieri, and brother Leland (Evelynn) Truka.
Her legacy of love, hard work, and kindness will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 13, 2025, in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Grandview Memorial Gardens.
