Lucy Fritz, 70, of Rochester, died Saturday (March 5, 2011) at Sunrise Cottages in Rochester.
Lucy was born March 7, 1940 in Watopa Township, Minnesota. Her family moved to Wabasha, MN where she was raised and graduated from high school. She moved to Rochester, MN in 1959 where she worked at St. Mary's Hospital. On April 22, 1961, she married Jim Fritz, Sr. in Rochester, MN. The couple resided in Rochester, MN.
Lucy and Jim established Grandma's Kitchen Restaurant in Rochester in 1977 and owned/operated it until 1988. Lucy was a stay-at-home mom and the bookkeeper for Grandma's Kitchen. After retirement, she volunteered at Rochester Methodist Hospital for many years and worked parttime at HyVee and Proex.
Lucy enjoyed attending her grandchildren's concerts, plays and sporting events; reading, traveling, photography, knitting, playing cards, visiting casinos and playing bingo (she was known as "Lucky Lucy"). She was a member of the Red Hat Society and was an avid walker.
Lucy is survived by her children, Sue (Dr. Tony) Parks of Stewartville, Jim (Julie) Fritz of Rochester, John (Tammy) Fritz of Stewartville, Karen Ludvigson of Monticello, and Jennifer (SFC Steve Jr) Hauschildt of Fort Hood, Texas; 11 grandchildren, Kayla, Austin, Nathan, Brendan, Shane, Ben, Derrick, Jeremy, Kyle, Emma, and Megan; her sister, Eleanor (George) Schwalbe of Wabasha; her brothers, LeRoy Guethlein of Winona, and Donald (Noreda) of Kellogg. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Jim Sr.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at the River Park Chapel, Macken Funeral Home, with the Rev. James D. Russell and Sr. Patricia Frits officiating. Friends may call 1 hour preceding the service. Lucy's body has been cremated and a private family burial will be held later at Calvary Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
