Obituary

Lowell Edward Fredin died peacefully on November 1, 2019 surrounded by his family.

Lowell was born July 12, 1944 in Minneapolis, MN and later moved to Rochester, MN. He attended Northup Elementary and graduated from John Marshall High School in 1962. He attended Rochester Junior College, Bemidji State University, Hamline University, and finally Ohio University where he earned a PhD in English Literature and Language.

Lowell taught English at Glenville State College in West Virginia, worked in sales, was the owner of the Wooden Nickel Tavern, and was a letter carrier for the USPS from 1980 until he retired in 2006. During his time with the USPS he was elected Shop Steward for NALC and was the branch scribe for the Postal Record.

Lowell married Teresa McConnell on June 28, 1980 in Winona, MN.

Lowell enjoyed making and eating popcorn, classic rock and blues music. His hobbies included writing poetry, playing guitar, reading, crossword puzzles, watching classic movies, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Lowell had the unique ability to whistle any tune he had ever heard.

Lowell is survived by his wife of 39 years, Teresa Fredin; his son Thane (Geri) Fredin; his daughter Jessica (Herbert) Heien; and his grandchildren Jeffery, JT, Eddie, Alexander, Liam and Vivian. He was preceded in death by his father Lloyd Fredin in 1985 and his mother Vera Fredin in 1992.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday November 7, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home, Rochester with Pastor Cheryl Nymann officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
