“Loretta” Alma Mohammed Heroux – Rochester
Loretta Alma Mohammed Heroux, 91, of Rochester, Minnesota, died Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at The Waters.
Loretta was born on May 27, 1935, in Woonsocket, Rhode Island, to Alley and Blanche (LaForge) Mohammed. She graduated from Precious Blood High School in Woonsocket in 1953. On June 17, 1961, she married Pierre Heroux at St. Charles Church in Woonsocket. They began their life together there and welcomed their first son, P. Jonathan, five years later, followed by their second son, Jason Edward, two years after that. Before becoming a mother, Loretta worked in Providence as secretary to the concierge at The Biltmore Hotel. The family moved throughout the Northeast and Midwest for Pierre’s career while Loretta raised their sons, eventually settling in Rochester in 1981. That year, she joined Mayo Clinic as a medical secretary in the Department of Neurosurgery. She retired in 2001 and joined Pierre on a tour of Europe before they returned to Rochester to enjoy retirement.
Loretta loved people—their stories, their company, and the simple pleasure of watching the world around her. She took a genuine interest in others and was always eager to help. Her kindness was a defining part of her life, and many described her as the kindest person they had ever met—a sentiment shared by her beloved husband, Pierre. She was an average cook but a superb baker. Her family cherished the dozens of homemade cookies she shared each Christmas when they visited. Giving and helping others were her ways of expressing love.
Loretta is survived by her loving husband, Pierre; her sons, P. Jonathan (Holly) Heroux of Denver, Colorado, and Jason Edward (Beth) Heroux of Siesta Key, Florida; and her grandchildren, Madeleine, Tucker, Teddy, and Charlotte. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
Local services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at Church of the Resurrection, 1612 11th Avenue SE, Rochester, Minnesota.
Family services will be held at the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery in Exeter, Rhode Island.
