Obituary

A funeral Mass for Loel H. Erickson will be 10:30AM Monday, March 28th at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rochester with the Rev. Paul Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Erickson, age 69, died Thursday, March 24, 2011 at Seasons Hospice surrounded by his family.

He was born Loel Henry Erickson July 16, 1941 in Cresco, Iowa to Russell and Marie (Henry) Erickson. Loel attended Notre Dame High School in Cresco, then Loras College and University of Northern Iowa.

On August 22, 1964 he married Kathleen Carolan at Plymouth Rock Catholic Church in Burr Oak, Iowa. Kathy passed away September 1, 1995.

Loel had a 33 year career with IBM Rochester and held various management positions in Manufacturing and Information Technology. At the time of his retirement in 1998 he was manager of Global Services. He was a member of the IBM retirees club and president of the Rochester chapter of AARP. In addition, he was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, playing cards, attending Lourdes sports and fishing up north with his family.

He is survived by three daughters and one son: Jodi (Sean) Valentine of Rochester, Sue (Troy) Mone of Farmington, Jill Erickson of Rochester and Tom (Polly) Erickson, of Rochester. Nine grandchildren survive: Sydney, Kate, Seth, Gannon, Zack, Josh, Ellie, Luke and Maggie. He is also survived by a sister, Shirley (Michael) Stender of Rochester.

In addition to his wife Kathy, he was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Aiden Valentine and a brother, Wayne.

Friends may call from 4:00PM to 7:00PM Sunday, March 27th in River Park Chapel at Macken Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Online condolences are welcome at www.mackenfuneralhome.com
