Leroy "Lee"
McCullough
November 10, 1925 – May 15, 2026
Lee McCullough, 100, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2026. He was at long last called home by Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior and reunited with his loving wife of 70 years just six months following his 100th birthday where he was surrounded by his family and friends who loved and respected him for being a steadfast pillar who stood firm for the Lord.
Leroy Alpha McCullough was born November 10, 1925 in Elwood, IN as the first of six children to George and Bertha (Goins) McCullough and was raised in Alexandria, IN until graduating in 1943. Later that year he joined the US Navy and served until the end of World War II. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Lois Anderson, on December 21, 1946 in Valparaiso, IN. In 1947, Lee began his career with IBM. He and Lois raised their young family in Indiana until his transfer to Rochester, MN in 1961, where he retired in 1987 after 40 years of service as an instructor and engineer.
Lee enjoyed camping, boating, and waterskiing with his wife and children and taught them all to ski. In 1976, he was diagnosed with cancer at which time his leg was amputated at his hip. The physicians gave him a 20% chance to survive following surgery, but by the grace of our Lord he was healed and lived life to its fullest for another 50 years. Never one to back away from a challenge, he continued to waterski (and snow ski) for years after his amputation, well into his 70s. Lee was exceptionally adept in electronic and mechanical repair and could keep an appliance going for decades past its expected life span. He also loved music and was a wonderful vocalist and pianist. In retirement, Lee enjoyed flying radio-controlled airplanes and travelling with his dear wife, Lois, until her passing in 2017.
Lee will be remembered as a caring and loving husband and father and a man of integrity who was not afraid to stand for what he believed in. Most important in his life was his faith in Christ and he was active in the church in bible studies and music and was a member of the choir. He was thankful for the gift of faith, given to him and Lois, which he shared with his family and others throughout his life. He believed the most important matter was to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior and then to seek God's will and live for Christ your whole life.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Lois; his parents; three brothers, Charles, Arvil, and Paul; and one sister, Eileen Morgan. He is survived by his three sons, David of Rochester, MN, Douglas (Shien) of Chandler, AZ, and Daniel (Dawn) of Millville, MN; two daughters, Diana (Dennis Wills) Perry of Overland Park, KS, and Deborah (Bruce) Amundson of Chatfield, MN; grandsons, Maxton and Ian McCullough; granddaughters Angela (Warren) Boysen, Mikayla (Kevin) Nordquist, Mackenzie (Cole) Seelhammer, and Madison McCullough; great grandsons Trevor Boysen and Lucas Nordquist; and his brother Doyle (Arrow) of Rosedale, IN.
His family and friends will always remember him with love, respect, and honor.
