Obituary

A funeral Mass for Leona (Lee) Wilkins will be at 10:30AM on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at St Francis Catholic Church in Rochester with Rev. Mark McNea officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Rochester.

Mrs. Wilkins, 86, a long time resident of Rochester, died Thursday (June 13, 2013) at Three Links Care Center in Northfield, MN with her son, granddaughters, grandson-in-law and great grandson at her side.

She was born November 9, 1926 in New Prague, MN. She came to Rochester in 1946 to work as a nursing assistant at Saint Marys Hospital. On May 4, 1948, she married Harvey George Wilkins in Iowa. In the late 1950's she returned to work at Waters Conley creating many lasting friendships. The job she liked most was dining hall supervisor at Rochester State Hospital where she worked joyfully with a sense of responsibility and compassion until the hospital was closed. She then worked at the JC Penneys restaurant and Barlows Restaurant. She was a gentle and fun woman who was also strong and a go getter.

She loved to spend time in her garden tending to her many perennials, now transplanted and tended to by her son. She was very close with her two granddaughters and loved cooking breakfast with them, teaching them her famous pie and cookie recipes and just being by their side as they played as kids. Now in their twenties and thirties, she loved to talk fashion with them

She is survived by her son Colby of Edina, MN; granddaughters Tia Wilkins Senenfelder of Plymouth, MN and Evy Wilkins of San Francisco, CA, great grandson Memphis Colby James Senenfelder;  two brothers, Ray and Emil Moran of  New Prague and a sister Stacie Quinelle of Northfield, MN. Her husband Harvey George Wilkins; sister Emily Irene (Moran) Rogers and brother Leonard Robert Moran preceded her in death.
