Lawrence “Spud”
Tomforde
March 21, 1916 – June 19, 2013
Lawrence "Spud" Tomforde, 97, a life-long resident of Rochester passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at St. Marys Hospital.
Spud was born on March 27, 1916 in Rochester to John and Amanda (Neumann) Tomforde. Spud graduated from high and college in Rochester. He was a veteran of WWII, serving honorably in the South Pacific theatre. He worked for the City of Rochester Electrical Department for over 30 years.
Spud and Pat were active in the Catholic charities, twice traveling to Haiti to work with the Sisters of Charity to help construct clinics. He also enjoyed volunteering to deliver Meals on Wheels. He was ever present for the activities of his children and grandchildren.
Spud had a great sense of humor and was sharp-witted until the end. He will be remembered for his love of family and friends. In return, he was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia; two sons Philip of Santa Cruz, CA, and Larry of Friant, CA and daughter Mary "Libby" Hagen of Rochester; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sisters Esther Smith and Bertha Tomforde.
A funeral Mass will be held at Madonna Towers on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Madonna Towers at 11:00am. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at Madonna Towers with Rev. James Russell officiating. A private burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Operation Homefront or Catholic Charities, Diocese of Winona.
