Larry was born in rural Byron on August 29, 1939, the son of Lawrence and Sarah (Posey) Reed. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1957, the last graduating class before John Marshall. In 1960 he was married and later divorced. He started work at Hicks Electric in 1957, and worked there until he retired in 2001. He was also one of the owners from 1980 to 1990.
On November 21, 1981 he married Carol Halloran and they made their home in Eyota until May of 1990 when they moved to the Mississippi River near Wabasha. They both had a love for fishing and boating and enjoyed 22 years living with a pontoon or boat tied up at their dock. Larry also enjoyed trap shooting and trips to Lake of the Woods to ice fish and shooting pool. He enjoyed watching the Military Channel on TV and working on jigsaw puzzles. He also took pleasure in watching the activities of his children and grandchildren.
Larry is survived by his wife Carol; sons, Dale of Rochester, Todd (Dawn) of Grand Meadow, Kurt (Cyndi) of Kasson and step-daughter Susan (Carl) Newberg of Rochester; 13 grandchildren and a great grandson. Another great grandson is due any day. He is also survived by sisters, Alberta Hoyer, Lorraine (Pete) Sikking, Joanne (Mel) Kraft all of Rochester and Phyllis (Elmer) Rubow of Chester, Minnesota.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law, Lois and Paul Zieman, and another brother-in-law, Jack Hoyer.
