Kenneth "Ken" Louis Heim, 77, of Bemidji, MN died,peacefully with his wife, daughter, and a close friend by his side December 25th, 2014 at Banner Heart Hospital in Mesa,AZ from complications of heart disease.
Ken was born in Winona, MN on April 12th, 1937 to Norman and Vernice (Stevens) Heim. He was raised on his "family farm" in St. Charles, MN and graduated from
St. Charles High School in 1955. On December 26th 1958 Ken married Shirley Jean Moetsch at St. John's Catholic Church in Rochester, MN.
Ken successfully pursued a career with MNDOT and for 38 years was employed as an engineering technician. He also worked for 3 years as a business agent for the MN
State Employees Union. Ken was also a longtime member of Toastmasters, Democratic Farmers League and Knights of Columbus.
An avid outdoorsman, Ken was a fisherman, hunter and gardener. He loved to bring or send flowers, especially roses to everyone. He spent many hours introducing newcomers to his friend "Bill W". After retirement Ken and Shirley traveled the states for 5 years before settling in Bemidji, MN in summers and Mesa, AZ in winters.
Preceded in death by his parents, Ken is survived by his wife Shirley and a brother, Thomas Heim and wife, Olivia (Kanz); a son Lyndon Paul Heim and wife Elizabeth Nancy Heim(Gingerich) of Anchorage, AK; a daughter Nancy Elizabeth Heim and partner Lucinda Rae Carr of Norwood, CO; grandchildren Lilah Elizabeth and husband Morgan Echols, and Ameliah Rose Heim; great-grandchild Zoe Elizabeth Echols all of Anchorage, AK.
Visitation will be at Macken Funeral Home, 5pm-8pm, Friday, January 2, 2015, and one hour before the service at church on Saturday. Funeral Services Mass at Resurrection Catholic Church, 11:00am, Saturday, January 3, 2015. Internment will follow at St. Aloysius Cemetery in Elba, MN. Memorials can be made to a charity of choice in memoriam of Ken Heim.
