Joseph F. Guyse died Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at Seasons Hospice after a 10 month battle with brain cancer.
Joe's wishes were to be cremated. A public visitation will be held Sunday October 16 from 3pm to 6pm at Macken Funeral Home in the River Park Chapel. You may also visit one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. The funeral will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Monday, October 17 at 11am with the Rev. Mark McNea officiating.
Joe was born July 16, 1939 in Rochester, Minnesota to Fredrick and Ruth (Stevens) Guyse. He graduated from Rochester High School in 1957. In 1958 he married Sharon Meyers and later divorced. On May 11, 1984 he married Jean Meier in Rochester.
Joe worked briefly as a plasterer, later he then began working for the City of Rochester with the Street and Alley. In 1961 Joe worked as a firefighter for the RFD for 29 years. During this period, he also owned a sewer and drain cleaning business. When Joe retired he worked for Action plumbing until he became ill.
Joe enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, scuba diving. and digging for ginseng. He also loved gardening, making maple syrup, wine and jam. He was and avid antique collector and stopped at most garage sales.
He served on the advisory board for the People's Coop. Joe was a member of the Stewartville Gun Club, and the NRA. He also belonged to the Lady Slipper's Model A Club. Other organizations include the American Legion and the Eagles Club. Joe was also a lifelong member of the Shady Bunch.
Survivors include his wife Jean, His daughter Libby Guyse of Westminster, Colorado. He has 3 grandchildren, Jesse Alberts (fiancé Erin),Huntington Beach,CA. Patrick Alberts of Boulder,Co. Katherine Alberts Westminster, Co. Brothers David (Noreen) Guyse from Wisconsin Rapids,Wi. John (Sandra) Guyse, Rochester,MN. Sisters Margaret (Micheal) Kadluoboski Reno,Nevada. Mary House of Rochester,Minnesota.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Linda Guyse, Patricia (Jim) Tilford ,and his special grandmother Harriet Ida Guyse.
Memorials are preferred to Seasons Hospice or a charity of donors choice.
